Keiji Nakazawa

Keiji Nakazawa (March 14, 1939 – December 19, 2012) was a Japanese manga artist born in Hiroshima, who survived the 1945 atomic bombing of the city as a first grader, losing his father, older sister and youngest brother. He debuted in 1962 with 'Spark 1', and his best-known work, Barefoot Gen, based on his own experience as an atomic bomb survivor, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1973. He received an award at the Angouleme International Comics Festival in 2004 and was inducted into the Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 2024.
