Makoto Niwano

Makoto Niwano (born May 1, 1964, in Sendai, now Satsumasendai, Kagoshima Prefecture) is a Japanese manga artist known for gag-driven hero-action and sports manga. He received honorable mentions in the Akatsuka Award in 1981, while still in high school, and again in 1986 for the one-shot The Momotaroh, whose serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1987 marked his debut as a serial author; he ran five serials in the magazine in total. He also drew the manga adaptation of Deltora Quest and was a mentor to Takeshi Obata.
