Takeshi Obata
Takeshi Obata (born February 11, 1969) is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator from Niigata City. After earning a runner-up prize in the 1985 Tezuka Award with '500 Kounen no Shinwa', he made his serial debut in 1989 with Cyborg Ji-chan G (then under the pen name Shigeru Hijikata) and has since worked mainly with story writers. Best known for Hikaru no Go and Death Note, he won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 2000 and the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize New Artist Award in 2003 for Hikaru no Go.
