Toshio Nishiyama
Toshio Nishiyama (1929–2006) was not a manga artist but a Tokyo-born zookeeper: he worked for about 20 years as a keeper at Ueno Zoo, where he was known for handling hippos, became the first director of Tobu Zoo in 1981, and was popularly called "Kaba Enchō" (the Hippo Director). Boku no Dōbutsuen Nikki, drawn by Kōichi Iimori for Weekly Shōnen Jump, is based on his life, and he is credited as its supervisor.
