A manga adaptation of Shunsaku Iwashita's novel "Muhomatsu no Issho". Set in Kokura (present-day Kitakyushu), it follows Matsugoro Tomishima, a rough-hewn rickshaw puller nicknamed "Muhomatsu", as he quietly devotes himself to the widow Yoshiko and young son Toshio of Captain Yoshioka, an army officer who died of a sudden illness soon after the two men became friends.
